All drivers of university owned or leased vehicles must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid U.S. driver’s license. Driving university owned or leased vehicles may require you to carry a special type of driver’s license.

Missouri Class E License

A Missouri Class E license needs to be obtained if you drive a university vehicle more than once a week and operate a vehicle that

  • transports 14 or fewer passengers,
  • weighs less than 26,000 pounds,
  • or does not require a hazardous material placard.

Missouri Commercial Driver’s Licenses

A Missouri Commercial Driver’s License needs to be obtained if you operate a vehicle that

  • transports more than 14 passengers,
  • weighs more than 26,000 pounds,
  • has a trailer over 100,000 pounds,
  • or requires a hazardous material placard.

For more information on obtaining a special driver’s license, visit the Missouri Department of Revenue website.

If you do not carry a Missouri driver’s license, you are required to carry your state’s equivalent to the above license. If your state does not have an equivalent, then no special license is required.
