Business travel accident insurance pays benefits only for loss caused as a direct result of accidental injuries incurred during authorized university business travel. It does not pay benefits for loss caused by or resulting from illness, disease or bodily infirmity.

Who Is Covered

Insured persons of Washington University include all employees domiciled in the United States who travel on university business, all persons enrolled in the graduate school program, clinical fellows, trainees and postdoctoral research scholars, and trustees who travel on behalf of the university. Insured persons also include the spouse, domestic partner and dependent children of the primary insured person traveling on business on behalf of the university.

What Is Covered

Coverage under the policy consists of accidental death and dismemberment, and permanent total disability. The policy limit (the “principal sum”) is paid for death, quadriplegia, coma and permanent total disability, and a percentage of the principal sum is paid for dismemberment. Additional scheduled benefits also apply as warranted, subject to the principal sum maximum.

Qualified Travel

Travel includes authorized local business travel away from the university’s premises as well as business travel to another city or location anywhere in the world. This coverage does not apply when commuting to and from work.

International Travel

Washington University contracts with international SOS to provide university members with a 24 hour worldwide International SOS Emergency Travel Assistance Service Plan. This plan is not health insurance or a substitute for health insurance coverage, however, options for health insurance while traveling internationally are available.

Visit the Global Engagement website for more information about the International SOS Emergency Travel Assistance Service Plan and for health coverage options provided by HTC World Wide and GeoBlue.
