All drivers of university owned or leased vehicles must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid U.S. driver’s license. Driving university owned or leased vehicles may require you to carry a special type of driver’s license.
Missouri Class E License
A Missouri Class E license needs to be obtained if you drive a university vehicle more than once a week and operate a vehicle that
- transports 14 or fewer passengers,
- weighs less than 26,000 pounds,
- or does not require a hazardous material placard.
Missouri Commercial Driver’s Licenses
A Missouri Commercial Driver’s License needs to be obtained if you operate a vehicle that
- transports more than 14 passengers,
- weighs more than 26,000 pounds,
- has a trailer over 100,000 pounds,
- or requires a hazardous material placard.

If you do not carry a Missouri driver’s license, you are required to carry your state’s equivalent to the above license. If your state does not have an equivalent, then no special license is required.
